Gravity Diagnostics Tests Over 100 COVID-19 Samples in First Four Days

Gravity Diagnostics, a private clinical diagnostics laboratory located in Northern Kentucky, who has already been conducting a wide menu of testing for respiratory infections began testing for COVID-19 (Coronavirus) on Monday, March 16th, 2020. On February 28, 2020, the FDA released its emergency use guidance to allow high-complexity testing for CLIA certified laboratories in the molecular virology subspecialty. Gravity Diagnostics answered the call quickly and compliantly, wasting no time to help in any way they can in this time of crisis.

Gravity Diagnostics’ leadership began laying the groundwork for testing validation in late January after recognizing that expansive testing would be a critical component of a national response to the outbreak.  Because of this, the Gravity Diagnostics lab team was uniquely positioned with the equipment, kits, and expertise to quickly and compliantly launch the COVID-19 testing.

The private CLIA lab has tested over 100 samples in their first four days of testing through servicing their regional physicians and is expected to significantly increase their volume over the next several weeks. They are following all government regulations and will only process samples that include a medical professional requesting the test. They have had 3 presumptive positives so far and are proud to be doing their part in giving those individuals and their families the information they need to take the proper precautions for themselves and the general public.

“We are following CDC and FDA guidelines while remaining committed to increasing access to those in need of testing,” said Julie Brazil, Chief Operating Officer of Gravity Diagnostics. “We have been humbled and amazed at all of the people that have jumped in to help our company get this crucial testing to those in need and I know we are just getting started.”
